WE LEARN Projects
updated November, 2008
We
invite WE LEARN members -- learners, educators, and all advocates for
women -- to become involved in the work of WE LEARN. We look forward to
your participation.
Work
Groups
WE LEARN work
groups are open to all members who would like to join in the fun and affect
the work of WE LEARN. You may live anywhere in the U.S. or Canada. We
try to meet face-to-face whenever possible, especially for people located
in close regional areas. However, much of our work is accomplished
through email and telephone conferencing.
To
get involved, contact Mev Miller / 401-383-4374 / welearn@litwomen.org

The Annual WE LEARN (Net)Working Conference held in March focuses on a different theme each year. We need both local and national organizers.
Click
here to see details of past conferences. |
The activities of this group include: fundraising for the annual issue, promoting the publication to teachers and students to encourage student writing, finding or producing illustrations for the issue, designing and laying out the issue, proofreading, and, most importantly, reading student writing for selection in the publication.

Community Building & Membership |
Curriculum Resources Development |
| The success and viability of WE LEARN depends on the participation and creativity of our membership. This committee will develop and support annual membership drives. This committee also supports:
-
ABE Student Leadership Support & Development
-
Regional Support Networks
We encourage members to organize regionally to do local work and to keep the national WE LEARN Board up-to-date on local concerns.
|
We encourage learners & teachers to find, collect, evaluate women-centered literacy and curriculum materials to build the Resources Section of our website. Reviews of new materials, lesson plans, evaluations and so on are welcomed and appreciated. |
|
Board
of Directors & Advisory Council |
| WE LEARN invites you to help us build the financial resources of WE LEARN to insure our sustainability. Fundraising, grantwriting and other creative solutions needed. |
Would
you like to take on a stronger leadership role in WE LEARN? We are
always working to make our board representative of our constituents.
In the next year, we also plan to develop an Advisory Council as well. |
Women Leading Through Reading |
|
Women Leading Through Reading (WLTR) Discussion Circles are student-centered and woman supportive. Based on the experiences of "book clubs," women learners connect their reading and discussion to issues and concerns important for their lives as women. The WLTR Circles assist each student to develop her confidence, leadership, and critical thinking skills. The Circles are co-facilitated by women volunteers from the local community. Click
here to see more details. |
Some of this work includes: writing articles, doing interviews, reviewing resource materials, highlighting current policy or research of importance to our members, editing or proofreading, seeking artwork, helping with layout and design…and more… |
Technology & Communications |
|
In addition to creating content & design for the website, this committee will explore ways to broaden our communications through blogs, internet surveys, wiki, and other forms of communication technology. We
are seeking volunteers with website design skills, BUT
you do not need to have website design skills to participate on
this committee. |
This work group will explore gender-based differences in learning and make recommendations about resources on policy, legislation, & research links to add to our website. |
